Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival to (Moshi) Tanzania

Many of our customers prefer to fly directly to Kilimanjaro Airport or fly to Kilimanjaro via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya. On arrival you will be met by our local staff and driven to a hotel of your choice in Moshi town.

Day 2. 900m - Day in Moshi

Get to meet our Adventure Global Tanzania staff and have a light relaxing day, this is a good day to drink properly for the start of day 3. You can also use this day to hire climbing equipment that you will need for the climb.

Day 3. 900m-2980m - Time 1 hour - Transport to Machame Gate

Registration and then head to Machame camp for an overnight stay on the edge of the rainforest.

Day 4. 2980m-3840 - Time 6-7 hours (7 km) - Machame to Shira plateau

We ascend through a huge volcanic plateau and thinning forest to the Shira hut, at this point you have a fantastic view of the mountain top. Here we camp for the night.

Day 5. 3840m-3950m - Time 7-8 hours (10 km) - Shira to Barranco Camp

We will turn east and continue climbing through the arid landscape before descending into the Barranco valley, just below the western break, this day we will cross two valleys through the base of the summit massif to reach the Barranco hut. Overnight stays at the cottages.

Day 6. 3950m-4550m - Time 4-5 hours (4 km) - Barranco camp to Karanga Valley

This is another up and down day, we start early climbing over the Barranco wall through the two valleys to get to the open camp with a great view of the glacier. We will not have gained much altitude at the end of the day, which is positive for acclimatization, we camp at Kangadalen for the night.

Day 7. 3950m-4550m - Time 4-5 hours (4 km) - Karanga Valley to Barafu camp

We will climb up towards the Barranco valley, across the open plains to the Karanga valley and then turn north towards the cooler temperatures at Barafu hut. 'Barafu' is Swahili for ice. Dinner and overnight at the Barafu camp.

Day 8. 4550m-5895m (Descent 3800m) - Time 4-5 hours (4 km) - Summit day

Be at the highest point in Africa!!! We will begin a night climb so expect cold temperatures with wind chill, through rocks, snow and ice to reach the crater rim and summit at Stella Point in time for sunrise. From Stella Point it's another 45 minute climb up the steep to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point! A slow descent in sunlight to Baraful Camp for early lunch and a further descent to Millenium Camp, arriving around mid-afternoon, late overnight at camp.

Day 9. 3800m-900m - Time 4-5 hours (11 km) - Millenium to Mweka Gate

A further descent through the lash forest towards Mweka Gate, at the gate you will sign out and select a summit certificate. At this point you will be exhausted from all the climbing so our staff will meet you at the gate and take you to your hotel for a hot shower and afternoon rest.

Day 10. You can either start a safari or be dropped off at the airport for your journey home.
