Itinerary

Day 1. Nairobi-Naru Moro

After breakfast, we will pack the car and start a 10 km drive to Naru Moro town; here, we will meet the guides and porters. You will get a chance to get to know them, and we will continue to Naru Moro, Mt Kenya National Park gate. At the entrance, you will see baboons and small antelopes running around. We then check in and continue driving through the bush tracks into the thick deciduous and bamboo forests. We then stop briefly for a quick lunch before continuing our journey to the measuring station. We camp here for the day. The campsite is close to the forest line; at night, you can see buffaloes and gazelles coming out to graze.

Day 2.

After breakfast, we continue our drive to our next destination, the Mackinders camp on a cliff of Moraine. While hiking, you will be amazed by the beauty of the Hygenia forest and the many birds that live here. After about 45 minutes of hiking, we come out on open moorland. It's on an elevated point. From here, you have a bird's eye view of the beautiful treetops, and you will see some fantastic giant Lobelia and large cabbage grass. We continue to some "picnic rocks", where we will stop for lunch. After lunch, we will continue our walk to Teleki Valley on the grasslands of the valley floor. We will cross a shallow seasonal river and enter a gentle climb to Mackinder camp. We camp here for the night.

At this time, you will have a perfect view of glaciers and the central peak. We will then aim to reach Shipton camp at (4200 meters); on our way there, we will climb towards the eastern terminus past Nayuki Tarn all the way to Arthur's seat; we will pass through a split pass past Kemi Tarn and finally reach Camp Shipton.

On our ascent to Shipton's camp, you will surely spot an elephant skeleton, "Icy Mike." legend says that this elephant died at this place for some reason while trying to summit Mount Kenya. From Skeletons of Icy Mike, we head back to Shipton camp for meals and rest for the day.

Day 5.

This is the big day!! We start an early 4-hour ascent around 02:00 to reach the top of Lenana in time for sunrise; the sun rises around 06:00, and it's a great feeling to wake up deep in the night in our night attempt to make it to the last top, feeling the cold wind on your face and crunching up the frozen landscape is just amazing. From camp, we will climb through a rocky outcrop, through a flat surface, before entering a gentle scree climb through the valley of Harris Tarn. From this point, it is only 30 minutes to the top. We will make a final push to reach the top of Lenana in time for sunrise. Your reward will be the sense of achievement when you reach the top. The fantastic feeling of being at the highest point in Kenya, the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, is also clearly visible from this point. We will enjoy the wonderful view for a while, take some great photos, drink, and toast in its warmth. We will then slowly descend east to Hall Tran for a full breakfast.
